The life and views of a Burmese rebel and journalist By Htet Aung Kyaw

115

A collection of essays written by a former student activist, rebel army commander and journalist in exile, Far From Home spans the life of Htet Aung Kyaw from his flight to rebel-controlled areas in 1988 to the hardships of jungle life, the early days of exile radio and his work as a journalist for the Democratic Voice of Burma. Htet Aung Kyaw describes his encounters with rebel fighters and Burmese political figures, from the God’s Army twins to intelligence officials, and delves into such issues as media freedom, international responsibility and the role of the Burmese exile community.

Mixing personal reminiscences and political analysis, Htet Aung Kyaw looks back over the past 20 years of the struggle for democracy in Burma and questions the future of the movement.
